A child’s challenging journey through treatment
The concept
The garden gives an insight into the emotions felt by a child diagnosed with cancer, taking their own steps on the challenging journey through treatment. The message is very much one of thoughts, wishes and hope intertwined with the mix of emotions that the child, together with their family, go through at such a time.
The use of sculpture, shapes, texture and colours in the garden is a beautiful representation of how the charity itself uses artwork to uplift a child who has been diagnosed with cancer and a tribute to the time and talent that over 300 volunteer artists give to this cause every single time they sit down to design and paint customised shoes for individual children, unique to each child.

The team behind the exhibit
Designer Laura, who has also displayed her considerable creative talents working alongside Alan Titchmarsh and the team on ITV’s Love Your Garden, said: “I have always aspired to design a garden at RHS Chelsea, the world’s greatest flower show, and Supershoes’ inspiring mission to empower children battling this terrible disease is both incredibly important and touching.
My aim is to bring beauty, strength and fun together in the design of the garden and to send the compelling message that children need to hold onto their identity and express themselves, especially when they’re going through the biggest challenge of their young lives.”
The Laced With Hope garden was built by Frosts Landscape Construction whose Managing Director Ken White is also a Trustee for the Charity.

Series 6
Love Your Garden
ITV Love Your Garden is a TV series that sees horticulturalist Alan Titchmarsh and his team of experts create surprise gardens for local heroes across Britain. The series began in 2011 and Oakmore Green had the pleasure of working with Alan and the team for the sixth series to create a selection of beautiful garden designs that were built for the heroes that featured on the show.
Garden Design in Yorkshire
This project was created for a land girl and passionate ballroom dancer. With a small garden to work with, it was crucial that every part of the garden was utilised.
Oakmore Green completed several draft plans before the final plan was chosen and agreed by the client.
She was absolutely delighted with her new garden and couldn’t wait to enjoy it with family and friends.

The front garden was included in the redesign and here we created a relaxing seating area and a variety of plants around a centre piece sculpture of a land girl. A detailed brick pathway curved around the front of the garden leading towards the front door.
The back garden was designed around a circular structure in the centre that had space for a dance floor beneath it. The porcelain paving beneath the structure had engravings of footsteps on it to replicate the movements you make on a dance floor.
There were raised borders around the seating area that were supported by wooden sleepers and had colourful planting in them with a selection of shrubs.
At the back of the garden a posh shed was designed into the corner with a water feature in front of it that could be viewed from the seating area and window from the house. On the opposite corner at the end of the garden was another raised bed that had a built in seat in front of it.
Garden Design in East Sussex
This garden design was created in Eastbourne, Kent for a war veteran that struggled to use his much loved garden due to mobility. He was an amazing artist and Oakmore Green wanted to capture this throughout the garden.
The chosen design featured an artist studio at the bottom of the garden. Somewhere that he could go to and continue his passion for painting whilst looking out at the garden.

The garden was redesigned with a simple path for him to have easy access to the entire garden and planting lining the edges. A circular pond sat to one side of the garden as a focal point with curved planting around it.
A selection of the clients art was hung on the fence panels around the garden to brighten up the area. The planting was very free flowing and colourful with a wide selection of sunflowers planted around amongst grasses and other perennials and bulbs.
The hero was delighted with his colourful garden and couldn’t wait to start painting it from the comfort of his new artist studio at the bottom of the garden.
Garden Design in Hampshire
This garden design that Oakmore Green created was in Eastleigh, Hampshire. The couple whose garden it was really loved going on cruises and so the design was based on this theme.
They wanted a section of the garden that their grandchildren could play in when they visited and also a space for entertaining with friend and family.
After several sketch ideas the final design was chosen, and this included several different features throughout the garden that had been designed with cruise ships in mind.
With the need of a shed for tools and storage and the aim of creating a covered area Oakmore Green incorporated a shed that had an open cover on the side of it so that they had somewhere to relax out of the sun.
This was an imaginative aspect to the design to give the couple the feeling that they are on a cruise whilst relaxing with family and friends. The front of the ship was planted with a selection of free-flowing plants that moved in the wind.

The main seating area in the garden had a large dinning table and was set within wooden sleepers fixed into the ground being made to look like the front of a ship.
A swing seat was located in a quiet corner of the garden, somewhere that they could relax with a book. An anchor had been positioned in a border to create a focal point and two tall, raised planters were painted to look like the red funnels of a cruise ship with planting coming out of the top that were sited on the deck.
The garden was finished off with bunting hanging from a tall pole at the front of the seating area indicating the sail of the ship. The clients were overjoyed with their new garden and couldn’t wait to show it off and enjoy it with family and friends over the summertime.
Garden Design in Bolton
This ITV Love Your Garden design was in Bolton and Oakmore Green designed this garden for a lady who had a stroke and struggled to get around her much loved garden. The client loved her animals in particular horses, so Oakmore Green used this theme throughout the space to create the garden design.
The garden had to be wheelchair friendly so Oakmore Green designed wide pathways to move around the space with ease. The garden was divided up into different section due to the length of it.
The end of the garden had a garden room building that she could relax in with a BBQ outside for entertaining with friends and family.

The middle section of the garden had a large square fire pit designed into it with a creative bench seat around it made from gabions. Another seating area on the other side of the garden gave multiple places that she could relax and enjoy her new settings in.
A selection of raised planters were built towards the front of the garden for growing different vegetables in and other plants in to bring the garden to life.
The planting around the garden was bright and colourful with a selection of different perennials, shrubs and trees like Acers which have lively foliage colouring that really stand out in the garden.
The team also planted a couple of topiary horses in the raised beds much to her delight.
Garden Design in County Durham
This garden design was in Durham, Country Durham. The family living here had ben through a tragic time and were put forward for Love Your Garden so they could have a space to enhance memories and somewhere to take time for themselves.
The garden was overlooking a stunning nature reserve that we wanted to enhance in the garden design. Oakmore Green created a variety of design plans and the chosen design included a cubed building in one of the corners that had a window looking out onto the nature reserve.
The other corner of the garden had an L shape raised planter with a variety of planting in from bulbs, perennials and slightly larger shrubs. A sculpture was placed in this raised bed to which had a circular cut out in the centre which framed the view from the wider landscape.

The paving by the house had cobbles set in the ground around the paving slabs in different patterns. Really brightening up the walkway around the garden. There was a hot tub included in the garden design that was in the centre of the garden looking across the nature reserve.
We added adjustable louvered fencing behind the hot tub so there was the option to make it private when the family were using it. This was set 600mm below ground, so it did not block the view too much from the house.
The heroes who lived here were absolutely delighted with their new garden design and couldn’t believe how their small garden had been converted into something that they can now enjoy every day together.
Garden Design in Canterbury
This garden design was created for a Gurkha double amputee who had always wanted a garden that reminded him of his home country and to accommodate his religion and beliefs with another area to entertain with family and friends.
Oakmore Green used the entirety of the garden and designed various areas that could be utilised. Along one side of the garden Oakmore Green designed a stream that flowed along the boundary creating areas for planting against the wall and decorative stones and pebbles to line the stream.
A raised curved deck connecting the backdoor with the garden with paving either side of it to brighten up the space. A decorative corten screen was fixed on top of the garden wall and bamboo planted around a curved bench to create privacy.

An area around the side of the garden was used to create a large dining space to entertain with family and friends in that had a large wooden table with a cover over the space.
The design plans for the garden also included planting plans for the space. Plants were planted amongst the stream, borders and in a selection of large pots that you can find around the garden.
The local hero loved their new garden design and couldn’t believe the transformation and how much the new design had opened up the garden making him feel a bit of his home country there.

The design embraces the property’s elevated position, framing uninterrupted views across the rolling Kent countryside and ensuring the landscape feels naturally connected to its surroundings.

Terraces
A series of generous terraces were introduced to provide a sense of scale and balance, complementing the grandeur of the renovated house. These elegant outdoor spaces create a natural transition between the interior and garden, offering flexible areas for relaxation, dining and social gatherings throughout the year.
Outdoor kitchen and seating
At the heart of the design is a bespoke outdoor kitchen and covered seating area, creating a true outdoor living space that can be enjoyed in all seasons. Carefully positioned to capture the surrounding views, this entertaining area provides the perfect setting for everything from family meals to larger celebration
Driveway and entrance
The property’s arrival experience was completely reimagined with the design of a new driveway and entrance. Planting design

Sevenoaks, Kent
Contemporary Design
A Modern Outdoor Living Space for a New Build
This contemporary garden design project in Sevenoaks, Kent was created for a striking new-build home set on a sloping site with no existing landscaping.
The owners wanted a low-maintenance garden that complemented the clean architectural lines of the property while providing a seamless connection between the interior and exterior living spaces.
Design approach
Our design embraced the principles of modern landscape architecture, creating a series of elegant outdoor rooms that extend the home into the garden. Strong geometric forms, high-quality materials and carefully considered levels were used to overcome the challenges of the sloping site, resulting in a landscape that is both functional and visually striking.

Low-maintenance planting
As the clients travel frequently, low maintenance was a key requirement. The planting scheme was designed to provide year-round structure, texture and seasonal interest while requiring minimal upkeep. Carefully selected evergreen planting, ornamental grasses and architectural shrubs soften the contemporary hard landscaping without compromising the clean, uncluttered aesthetic.
Hot tub and entertaining spaces
A luxurious hot tub was seamlessly integrated into the design, surrounded by bespoke screening that provides privacy while maintaining an open and spacious feel. Dedicated areas for relaxing, outdoor dining and entertaining allow the garden to be enjoyed throughout the year, creating a true extension of the home.
The result
The completed garden is a sophisticated outdoor environment that combines elegant contemporary design with practical, low-maintenance landscaping. Tenterden, Kent
Landscape Design
Transforming an Underused Country Garden
This extensive landscape design project in Tenterden, Kent transformed an underutilised country garden into a sophisticated outdoor living environment that balances traditional character with contemporary design.
The brief
The owners wanted to retain the property’s established features while introducing modern landscaping that improved the way the garden could be enjoyed throughout the year. Our design focused on creating a series of connected outdoor spaces, each with its own purpose, while ensuring the garden remained sympathetic to its rural surroundings.

Garden office and pond seating
One of the most significant changes was the redevelopment of a previously unused area of the garden. This space was reimagined as a bespoke garden office, providing a peaceful and productive place to work from home. Adjacent to the office, we designed a sheltered seating area centred around a beautifully integrated circular pond, creating a tranquil setting for relaxation and informal entertaining.
Outdoor kitchen and dining
Closer to the house, the original patio was redesigned to become a stylish outdoor kitchen and dining area. This new entertaining space seamlessly connects the home with the garden, making it ideal for family gatherings and alfresco dining throughout the seasons.
Planting design
To complete the transformation, new planting borders were introduced throughout the garden. Carefully selected trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials provide year-round structure, seasonal colour, texture and biodiversity, ensuring the garden continues to evolve throughout the seasons while complementing the surrounding Kent countryside.
The result
This bespoke landscape design demonstrates how thoughtful planning, high-quality craftsmanship and carefully considered planting can transform an ordinary country garden into a series of elegant outdoor living spaces that are both beautiful and highly functional.

Features That Elevate Outdoor Entertaining
Our entertainment-focused designs primarily feature pergola shelters over, and around outdoor kitchens, and seating areas, which provide a central hub for cooking, dining, and socialising.
Furthermore, integrating elements such as pools, firepits, and flexible seating zones enhances the gardens ability to host gatherings of all sizes.
Other popular areas that feature in our contemporary designs often include pergolas with climbing plants, which can be used as a private area with seating, or a pleasant walkway through your garden.
The results of these specialist features are not only visually striking, but also enrich the outdoor entertainment experience.
Tunbridge Wells
Water Garden
Transformed From a Completely Blank Canvas
This bespoke water garden design in Tunbridge Wells transformed a newly built property from a completely blank canvas into a private, tranquil outdoor living space that complements the architecture of the home while significantly enhancing its value.
Background
Prior to the house being constructed, Oakmore Green was appointed by the developer to prepare and secure the landscape planning conditions, ensuring all planning requirements were successfully discharged. Following completion of the property, the developer recommended us to the new homeowners to create a garden worthy of the house.
The brief
The brief was clear: the clients had a passion for water and wanted a contemporary garden that delivered complete privacy from neighbouring properties without feeling enclosed.

The water feature
Our design centred around a striking split-level water feature that flows through the garden, creating movement, sound and a strong visual focal point. The water feature connects a series of carefully designed outdoor spaces, encouraging exploration while providing a calm, relaxing atmosphere throughout the garden.r.
Privacy and screening
To create year-round screening, we specified and installed a mature 3-metre evergreen boundary hedge, providing immediate privacy and establishing a secluded setting from day one. This instant screening transformed the experience of the garden, allowing the clients to enjoy their outdoor space in complete comfort.
Planting design
The planting scheme was carefully designed to complement the water feature, combining architectural structure with softer textures and seasonal interest. Layers of ornamental grasses, perennials and evergreen planting create movement, biodiversity and year-round appeal while softening the hard landscaping.
Seating and outdoor living
Multiple seating areas were incorporated throughout the design, each offering a different perspective of the water and planting. Whether enjoying morning coffee, entertaining guests or simply relaxing beside the sound of flowing water, every part of the garden has a distinct purpose and atmosphere.
The result
The finished landscape delivers far more than an attractive garden. It creates an immediate sense of maturity that is often missing from new-build properties, seamlessly integrating the house into its surroundings. Country Garden Design
Bespoke Country Garden in Rye
This bespoke country garden design in Rye, East Sussex transformed a newly built rural home from an empty field into a timeless landscape that sits naturally within its surroundings while making the most of the spectacular views across the Kent and Sussex countryside towards the coastline.
Background
Set within an exceptional rural location, the property was surrounded by open agricultural land, presenting a complete blank canvas. The clients are passionate gardeners and wanted a landscape that felt as though it had always belonged to the site, one that complemented the architecture of the house, celebrated the surrounding countryside and encouraged wildlife.
Design approach
Our design carefully responded to the character of the landscape, creating a series of connected garden spaces that balance formal entertaining with relaxed country living.
The terrace
A generous natural stone terrace was designed to reflect the scale and quality of the new home, providing an elegant space for outdoor dining and entertaining while framing uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape. The terrace seamlessly connects the house with the garden, encouraging year-round enjoyment of the outdoor space.

Kitchen garden
For clients who enjoy growing their own produce, we designed a productive kitchen and vegetable garden with raised planting beds, creating an attractive and practical area that integrates beautifully into the wider landscape.
Arrival and entrance
The arrival experience was equally important. A new entrance drive and bespoke gates were designed to enhance the property’s rural character while providing a strong sense of arrival that reflects the quality of the home.
Wildlife pond
To maximise biodiversity, we incorporated a wildlife pond, creating valuable habitat for birds, amphibians, insects and pollinators while introducing a peaceful focal point within the garden. Native and naturalistic planting around the pond allows it to blend effortlessly into the surrounding countryside.
Courtyard and seating
A sheltered courtyard garden was designed as a private retreat for the hot tub, protected from prevailing winds and offering a secluded space that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Throughout the wider garden, a number of carefully positioned seating areas provide different viewpoints, allowing the owners to experience the changing light, seasonal planting and panoramic views from a variety of locations.
Planting design
The planting scheme combines ornamental structure with naturalistic drifts of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees, ensuring year-round interest while strengthening the connection between the formal garden and the surrounding landscape. Every element was selected to soften the new-build setting, creating the impression of a mature country garden that has evolved naturally over time.
The result
The completed garden has transformed the property into a distinctive rural home where architecture, landscape and nature work in harmony. The result is a beautiful and functional outdoor space that enhances the setting, encourages biodiversity and provides a garden that will continue to mature for generations.

North London
City Garden Design
The concept
London can be a busy place to live in but what’s nicer than having your own peaceful garden where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings after a hard day’s work. This project that Oakmore Green completed for a client was situated in North London and had what they thought was an unusable garden at the back of the property. The client wanted to make the most out of the space available and got in contact with Oakmore Green to create a masterplan of their garden.
The client wanted to incorporate a hot tub within the design and an outdoor room that they could utilise as another room within the garden. They also wanted to have a waterfall and stream running through the garden to create a tranquil area. Oakmore Green got to work with designing various options that could incorporate every part of the garden making the most of the space available whilst creating a journey from beginning to end.

The garden designs that Oakmore Green proposed to the client included a sinuous pathway throughout the garden with the stream running adjacent to it. The hot tub was positioned in the top corner of the garden with the garden room next to it. In the middle of the garden was a curved seat that looked out onto the planting around the waterfall and stream with decorative stones amongst it.
There were a selection of new trees that Oakmore Green designed into the space to create more privacy for the clients as they had neighbours either side of them. The variation of colours that the leaves turned throughout the year really make the space stand out.
The existing patio that was by the house was too small to fit a dining table and chairs on so Oakmore Green extended the existing space with decking to create a larger area. The contemporary outdoor kitchen was designed on the masterplan to be near to the house so that the client could easily access it from inside when entertaining with family and friends.
Once the planting began to fill out in the borders and around the stream the space really came to life. the clients were delighted with their new garden design and could final enjoy having friends and family round to entertain with now that they had a functional garden with the space to enjoy and be proud of.
Smarden, Kent
Barn Conversion
The Concept
Smarden is a rural village located just east of Headcorn. It still has many of the 15th and 16th century houses that were built there which brings a lot of character to the village. Surrounded by countryside and nature, its an ideal village to create the perfect traditional country garden design which is exactly what Oakmore Green created for this client.
After our client renovated their barn conversion into a contemporary home, they contacted Oakmore Green to help with redesigning the planting and to make a feature of the large pond that was location on the property. This project in Smarden had a large lawn area around the pond that Oakmore green designed some additional trees into the plans to create some different heights throughout the flat landscape.

The client was having trouble to get anything to grow in the soil after having the property developed. After an initial site visit Oakmore Green discovered that the soil was poor in nutrients which is why none of the plants they had brought were surviving.
We organised the removal of the unusable soil in the beds and around the pond and new quality top soil replaced them all in order to give the plants the best start. Irrigation was set up throughout all the beds and borders ready for when the plants were planted.
Irrigation is so important to have when you have your garden designed as all plants need regular watering, especially when they are first planted to give them the best chance at surviving and looking there best.
Oakmore Green got to designing planting plans for the garden and around the large pond. We created a rockery at one end of the pond where the land was slightly raised to encase the bank and give it some structure. Tall plants were planted in drifts across the length of the pond and around the pathways in the garden. This created gentle sound and movement throughout the space.
Perennials were planted in groups across the garden to create colourful barriers and guide your way as you walk around the garden. The planting design directly around the house was quiet contemporary to match the style of the refurbished barn conversion with a lot of structure and symmetry.
The planting design further out in the garden and around the pond was more informal with a traditional style to it creating a relaxed and colourful garden that the clients were overjoyed with.

Beautiful Large Gardens
Large Gardens With Traditional Planting
English Country Style gardens are a very popular design in Sevenoaks, Kent that can really give the feeling of being at home and surrounded by nature. In Sevenoaks, Kent this garden design is commonly found due to the substantial size gardens that are found there and the space that is available to create the perfect garden for our clients.
The countryside and rolling hills of greenery really enhance the garden design that Oakmore Green creates for clients in Sevenoaks, Kent. Framing views of the wider landscape in our designs and masterplans by using sculptures, planting, and perspective points around the garden for clients really brings the space all together and give it that English Country Style feel.

A great example of this is a large garden that we designed for our clients in Sevenoaks, Kent. The clients had a large garden with a variety of different levels that was overlooking the countryside.
They were looking for a traditional English country style to it but with a modern touch. Oakmore Green began by dividing up the garden creating different rooms which really gave the open space some depth to it and created new areas.
It had a small stream flowing through the centre of the landscape which we enhanced with a rockery and planting to make it more appealing for nature.
We designed various new patio areas including a large seating area by the pool house for the clients to enjoy whilst looking across the garden into the wider landscape of Sevenoaks, Kent.
The use of sculptures in this garden really helped to capture some incredible focal points.
The sculptures we used were from a local sculpturist and they were substantial enough to be viewed from across the garden creating different perspectives depending on where you were within the space.
With a section of the lawn area Oakmore Green designed a perennial wildflower meadow that looks spectacular when it’s in flower.
The client really wanted to enhance the wildlife that visited their garden and we thought this was a great addition to the masterplan and a great way to make the most the space and create a haven for wildlife which the client was delighted with.

A Timeless Country Garden
Full Landscape Design for a Renovation
When our clients set out to renovate their dream country home we were invited to design the garden to match.
The brief asked for a timeless, elegant landscape with an Italian feel formal lines and classic planting, but with plenty of warm, family-friendly features.
Working closely with the interior designer and the building team, we connected the main frontage to the new driveway and the kitchen/vegetable garden with a series of outdoor “rooms” and memorable moments.

Key design features
Pool house a refined poolside pavilion that reads as an extension of the house, designed for lounging, entertaining and shelter from summer sun.
Paddle court a leisure space carefully sited and screened so it feels part of the garden without dominating the view.
Vegetable garden practical, well-laid-out beds and access paths close to the kitchen, yet tucked away so they feel like a secret productive garden.
Breeze house a sheltered, semi-open structure for relaxation, reading and enjoying the garden in lighter winds.
Children’s play area safe, fun and visible from the house, with naturalistic play elements and soft surfacing.
Water feature a subtle, sculptural element that provides sound and movement, anchoring sight-lines between the house and the wider landscape.
Planting palette structural evergreens and clipped hedging for formality, with warm Mediterranean-toned shrubs and perennials to evoke that Italian atmosphere while remaining suitable for the local climate.
Hardscape natural stone terraces, ornamental steps and resin gravel drives chosen to complement the house materials and provide age-resistant, low-maintenance surfaces.
The result
The finished garden reads as a single, elegant composition: classical in proportion but relaxed enough for family life. It links the formal frontage to the new drive and the utilitarian vegetable garden with a sequence of spaces that reward exploration.
Great Chart, Kent
Country Garden Design
A complete landscape transformation
This new-build country property in Great Chart, Kent, presented a blank canvas – quite literally a house in a field with no established garden or landscape.
The clients wanted to create a beautiful, sophisticated family garden that felt as though it belonged to the property, while providing practical spaces for everyday family life, entertaining and outdoor cooking throughout the year.

The brief
The brief was ambitious and the timescale was demanding. The garden needed to be completed in time for a special birthday celebration, meaning the design, specification and implementation all had to be carefully coordinated to achieve the required finish within a strict programme.
The clients specifically wanted a Braai outdoor kitchen, creating a focal point for entertaining and allowing them to cook and dine outside throughout much of the year.
Its position within the wider garden was carefully considered so that it worked as both a practical cooking area and a social space, connecting naturally with the surrounding seating and entertaining areas.
This approach to outdoor living is increasingly important in contemporary landscape garden design, where gardens are designed as functional extensions of the home rather than simply planted spaces.
With over 30 years of experience in garden design and landscape design, I understand how to combine the aesthetic, practical and technical aspects of a project to create gardens that are both beautiful and highly functional.

What’s an IVA?
Professional LVA Reports for Planning Applications
An LVA is typically required at the planning application stage for smaller or medium-scale developments. It provides a proportionate assessment of landscape character and the visual impact of a proposed development, giving the LPA the evidence they need to make an informed decision.
An LVA is usually the first step; once planning is approved, landscape conditions follow. We can support you through both stages, ensuring consistency from submission through to implementation.
We produce clear, professional LVA reports that include:
➜ Identification of key visual receptors
➜ Visual impact analysis
➜ Supporting plans and viewpoint photography
➜ Mitigation recommendations
➜ Baseline landscape character assessment

Frequent Questions
Landscape conditions are legally binding requirements attached to a planning permission by the Local Planning Authority. They must be formally discharged, usually by submitting detailed landscape drawings and documentation, before development can begin or a property can be occupied.
Failing to discharge landscape conditions is a breach of planning permission. This can result in enforcement action, delays to your build, or problems when selling the property. It’s important to address them early in the process.
As early as possible. Ideally, you should begin preparing your landscape condition submissions as soon as planning permission is granted, so there are no delays to your build programme.
The LPA has a statutory 8-week period to respond to discharge applications. However, preparing a thorough, accurate submission beforehand is key; incomplete packages often get rejected, adding weeks or months to the process.
An LVA is needed before planning permission is granted, it supports your planning application. Landscape conditions come after permission is granted and must be discharged before you can build. We can help with both stages.
Landscape condition packages require specialist knowledge of planting, tree protection, construction detailing, and planning policy. Builders and architects rarely have this expertise, which is why submissions prepared without a specialist often get rejected.
